Ice cream can be very easy to remove from clothing if you get it quickly. However, once it dries, the stain becomes a bit trickier. Should the hot summer months bring you a few misfires with your favorite cold treats, consider the following simple procedure:
- Use a spoon or dull knife to remove as much of the ice cream as you can.
- Soak the stained fabric in cold water for five to ten minutes. Avoid using hot water, as this allows a protein-based stain like ice cream to set.
- If some of the stain remains after the soaking, rub the area with detergent and let it sit for another thirty minutes in room temperature water. Every five minutes, rub the stain gently.
- Rinse out the clothing, and repeat the soaking until you no longer see any sign of the stain. Do not run the garment through the clothes dryer until you are sure that the stain is gone.
If you get an ice cream stain in a garment that cannot be washed in water, bring it to our Bellevue dry cleaning service.
