Removing Cooking Oil Stains

If you’re an avid chef, you’re probably familiar enough with the hazards of cooking oil and vegetable oil. These substances splash and splatter about in the kitchen, and they can be quite stubborn when they get into your clothes, tablecloths, and other laundry items. Our Bellevue dry cleaning service can help you out with your more delicate items, but try the following on anything that is not specified for dry cleaning:

  1. Use a dull knife or spoon to remove as much of the oil as you can, taking care to scrape it away and not spread it around.
  2. Apply a liquid detergent to the stain and let it sit for three to five minutes. If your laundry detergent doesn’t do the job, try a liquid dish soap.
  3. Wash the garment, using the hottest temperature of water that is advisable for the fabric in question.
  4. Check that the stain is fully removed before drying the clothing. If you still see a hit of oil, repeat the above steps.
