A lot of salad dressings are based on oil, which makes them difficult to rinse off. Also, since some dressings have vinegar or other acidic substances, exposure to salad dressing stains can be damaging to your fabrics. Fortunately, with the right approach, you can remove the stain quickly and easily.
- Scrape away as much of the dressing as you can. Use a dull knife or spoon that won’t damage your fabric.
- Rub liquid detergent into the stained area and let it sit for three to five minutes. If the stain is particularly tough or extensive, you may need to allow for ten minutes.
- Wash the garment as normal, making use of the hottest water that the fabric can safely be washed in.
- Before drying the stained garment, check to see that the stain has been completely removed; if any remaining dressing goes through the dryer, it will only serve to set the stain more. Repeat the above steps as needed.
If you get salad dressing stains on a garment that cannot be washed with conventional means, bring it in to our Bellevue dry cleaners.
